Meet Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is a 2 year old greyhound. He arrived in California on October 25th, 2008. After having some issues during a romp at the dog park, we took him to the Animal Hospital of Sebastopol for an x-ray. It turns out Canyon has a broken bone in his front leg and it happens to be in a sensitive area where tendons connect and pass over. This injury is unique to racing greyhounds and some working dogs. In Canyon’s current condition, he will never be able to run, but with a specialized surgery, odds of a full recovery are high.

Canyon is a very sweet boy with a lot of energy (a little more than your average sleep-loving greyhound). He is in foster care with another greyhound and he gets along well with cats.

Canyon’s surgery is scheduled for November 18, 2008 and soon after, we hope to have him adopted into a new forever home. The surgery costs $2500 and as a non-profit group we need your help to pay for it.

UPDATE!!! 11/24/08

Canyon underwent surgery at Petcare in Santa Rosa on November 18, 2008 and the procedure went very well. Dr. Talcott was able to install the screws after getting through a lot of scar tissue. Currently, Canyon is in a cast and gets around as well as can be expected given he has a 12” rigid cast on his leg. He is in good spirits and has been fairly mellow and easy to contain during his recovery.

Thank you for your donations towards Canyon’s surgery and also for spreading the word about this little guy. We have raised over $1500 so far! Please Keep it up!

Canyon has found a new home in San Francisco! He will be officially adopted by the middle of December. If he knew where he is going, he would surely be excited! We are certain his new family will provide a wonderful home. Also, it just happens they live right down the street from a fully fenced dog park!
